About IGNITE
Founded by Dan Bilzerian, IGNITE is an industry expert in cannabis products. The IGNITE brand was conceived in 2017. The founder and CEO Dan Bilzerian named the company Ignite Cannabis Co. His vision was to make the brand a catalyst for innovation in the cannabis industry all around the world.
It was in September of 2018 that the US branch was launched. Without wasting time, the company swiftly expanded into Mexico and the UK. This year 2020, IGNITE has established a presence in Canada and the Middle East.
The Company's Objectives
IGNITE aims to become a global lifestyle brand that innovates and produces unparalleled products on the market. It also strives to be a socially responsible entity, using its brand power and marketing to promote a healthy lifestyle. The management team believes that their devotion to improving the general lifestyle of customers is self-rewarding. These actions will have a positive impact on the business, shareholders, and employees.
Evolution of the cannabis industry
Cannabis used for therapeutic purposes dates back thousands of years. Ancient civilisations used cannabis for medical purposes to alleviate disease symptoms.
A Chinese Emperor by the name of Sheng Nung is recorded as having used tea suffused with cannabis around 2700 BC. This drink was said to have helped minimise the symptoms of ailments such as malaria, gout, memory, and rheumatism.
Although people didn't understand the science of cannabis, they still used it because it worked effectively. The ban on cannabis came about in the late 1800s. This was when modern medicine emerged. In that era, medical communities began demanding scientific evidence to validate drugs as safe and effective for use.
Early developments
After an Irish researcher William B. O'Shaughnessy published a book explaining the healing effects of cannabis, the world became interested in cannabis science. In the book, he investigated the general effects and potential medical applications of cannabis.
Later, in the early 1900s, William B. O'Shaughnessy further explained the existence of individual compounds called cannabinoids in cannabis. The information inspired a British chemist by the name of Robert S. Cahn. This researcher was the first to identify an individual cannabinoid. He revealed the partial structure of the phytocannabinoid known as Cannabinol (CBN). The compound became fully formed in 1940.
Cannabidiol (CBD)
In 1942, another discovery that would change the course of history was made. An American chemist called Roger Adams became the first to isolate Cannabidiol (CBD). His research also influenced the discovery of Tetrahydrocannabinol (THC).
After two decades, a scientist who works at Hebrew University today, Dr Raphael Mechoulam managed to publish the individual effects of cannabis compounds called phytocannabinoids. In that period, he also unveiled the stereochemistry of cannabidiol.
In 1964, Dr Mechoulam made another breakthrough in identifying the stereochemistry of THC. The discovery enabled scientists to single out THC as the cannabinoid behind the mind-altering and intoxicating effects of cannabis.
Through an undying passion for learning more, Dr Mechoulam and his team also unearthed the applicability of CBD for the treatment of epileptic seizures. This finding led to the formulation of Epidiolex, a drug that's used to treat epilepsy today. As the years passed by, more phytocannabinoids and their structures were revealed. The existence of an endocannabinoid system in the human body was also discovered.
The Endocannabinoid System (ECS)
The zeal to understand the metabolic pathways of cannabinoids in the body led scientists to stumble upon the Endocannabinoid System (ECS).
The ECS is a biological signalling system that regulates a wide range of physiological processes in the body. It consists of enzymes, neurotransmitters, and cannabinoid receptors located in the central and peripheral nervous systems.
The role of the Endocannabinoid System
A variety of health effects are produced by the interaction of neurotransmitter substances called endocannabinoids with cannabinoid receptors. These endocannabinoids are chemical substances that are synthesized in the body. They were identified by Dr Lumir Hanus and Dr William Devane in 1992. They are responsible for a number of tasks in the human body. The overall goal is to maintain a stable internal environment in spite of environmental fluctuations. This process is called homeostasis. Upon detection of an imbalance in the internal environment, endocannabinoids stimulate a response that resets the physiological process back to the point of equilibrium.
Endocannabinoid deficiency
In some instances, a deficiency can occur in the ECS signalling. The condition is called Clinical Endocannabinoid Deficiency. It's caused by the insufficient production of endocannabinoids or cannabinoid receptors in the body. However, the good news is that phytocannabinoids (e.g. CBD) found in cannabis are identical to endocannabinoids. These organic compounds can be used as a supplement to support the ECS.
What should you know about CBD?
Cannabidiol (CBD) is one of the few compounds that were carefully examined among over 100 phytocannabinoids found in cannabis.
Benefits of CBD as a supplement
What the world didn't know a few decades ago is that cannabinoids are essential to health. They can play the same natural roles as endocannabinoids. In addition to homeostasis, many users of CBD report:
- Pain relief
CBD can bind with cannabinoid receptors which may assuage pain and inflammation. Users say that they feel relieved from chronic pain, and body aches that emanate from physical exercise and daily exertion.
- Anxiety relief
Since ancient times, CBD was renowned for its calming and soothing effects. Studies reveal that CBD stimulates the production of serotonin in the brain. Serotonin is a chemical that reduces anxiety by giving you a sense of happiness.
- Enhanced immunity
The powerful antioxidant properties of CBD may boost your immune health. Antioxidants reduce the risks of chronic diseases.
Other findings
A lot of research is happening in the background to validate findings such as:
Neuroprotection - it's thought that CBD might protect the human brain against cognitive degeneration. This is because of its ability to interact with various signalling systems of the brain.
Enhanced mental health - scientists are exploring the ability of CBD to provide relief from schizophrenia, and mental ageing diseases such as Alzheimer's, and Parkinson's.
Improved bone health - if CBD is able to promote the strengthening and restoration of bones, scientists believe it could be used to treat osteoporosis in the future.
NB: Do not substitute medically prescribed drugs with IGNITE's CBD products. Their products are only designed to enhance an active and healthy lifestyle.
